Microsoft has come with lots of modification and changes in feature with windows 10 and its updates. But many users are still not satisfied with the new UI and some annoying or unwanted icons in taskbar so here we came up with some windows 10 registry tweaks or modification that can give users the old contented UI and some other tweaks too 😉 as always advice before implementing the following tweaks or modification always back up your registry.
Disable the log in background image
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System
2.right click mouse on system and select “create new DWORD” and name that DWORD as DisableLogonBackgroundImage and now select that “DisableLogonBackgroundImage” right click of mouse and choose modify and insert 1 as value,and press OK. after that reboot your PC to take changes.
just incase if we want that background image back or restore in future then just delete that DWORD labelled as DisableLogonBackgroundImage that,s it.
Dark Mode: Enable The Hidden Theme
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Themes\Personalize
2.Right click mouse on personalize and select “create new DWORD” and name that DWORD as AppsUseLightTheme and now select that “AppsUseLightTheme” right click of mouse and choose modify and insert 0 as value,and press OK. after that reboot your PC to take changes
for restoring that default UI just delete that DWORD “AppsUseLightTheme”
Note: “AppsUseLightTheme” was replaced for SystemUsesLightTheme in windows 10 former testing.
Restore old Volume COntrol UI
Debuted horizontally UI by Microsoft for volume controller in windows 10 which is in taskbar notification area,but just incase if we don’t want that new UI and want back the old UI then we can do by following changes
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\
2.Under CurrentVersion Key create MTCUVC
3.at the right side pane create new DWORD and name that DWORD as EnableMtcUvc and put value as 0 and press OK and reboot the computer to take changed effects.
delete that DWORD EnableMtcUvc just incase if you want to restore to new volume UI.
Get old tray clock and calendar UI
You can use following method to disable the new Modern (Metro) style Clock and Calendar UI and restore good ol’ classic Date/Time UI in Windows 10 Taskbar Notification Area (aka System Tray):
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
2. Select ImmersiveShell and right click of mouse and choose create a new DWORD and name that DWORD as UseWin32TrayClockExperience right click of mouse on UseWin32TrayClockExperience and choose modify and insert value as 1
Get the old Battery Fly-out UI
You can use the following method to disable the new Modern (Metro) style Battery fly-out and restore good ol’ classic Battery info UI in Windows 10 Taskbar Notification Area (aka System Tray):
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto folloing path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
2. select ImmersiveShell and right click of mouse and choose create a new DWORD and name that DWORD as UseWin32BatteryFlyout right-click of mouse on UseWin32BatteryFlyout and choose modify and insert value as 1
delete that DWORD to restore to previous UI
Get back the Old Action center Sidebar UI
Microsoft debuted new action center sidebar UI in Windows 10 its show up as sidebar and include new quick action clicks.
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
2. select ImmersiveShell and right click of mouse and choose create a new DWORD and name that DWORD as UseActionCenterExperience right click of mouse on UseActionCenterExperience and choose modify and insert value as 0 and reboot the system to take effects.
Disable the Debuted Action Center
if you are unsatisfied with debuted Action Center in Windows 10 updates then you can disable completely by following tweak
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
2. select Explorer and right click of mouse and choose create a new DWORD and name that DWORD as DisableNotificationCenter right click of mouse on DisableNotificationCenter and choose modify and insert value as 1 and reboot the system to take effects.
Activate Experimental Log-in screen
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following pathHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Authentication\LogonUI\TestHooks
2. at the right hand side pane, change value of “Threshold” to 1
restore the default login screen by replacing the value to 0
Get back the former/previous start menu
In new windows 10 build 9923 Microsoft has debuted new xaml start menu which had still bugs in it but many users are not aware that windows 10 build 9926 still contains old xaml start menu which can be enabled by following tweak.
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto folloing path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
2. select Advanced and right click of mouse and choose create a new DWORD and name that DWORD as EnableXamlStartMenu right click of mouse on EnableXamlStartMenu and choose modify and insert value as 0 and reboot the system to take effects. reboot the system to take the effects.
Activate Jump List Feature of Windows 10 start menu
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
2. select Advanced and right click of mouse and choose create a new DWORD and name that DWORD as EnableXamlJumpView right click of mouse on EnableXamlJumpView and choose modify and insert value as 1 and reboot the system to take effects. reboot the system to take the effects.
 Get back the old UI of windows Update
In windows 10 new windows UI is not that attractive as it was in previous version many users are disappointed with new update UI but we can get back the old UI too by following tweak!!
1.press window button+r and type “regedit” and in registry editor then goto following path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX
2. at the right hand side pane, change value of IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled DWORD to 0
and reboot system and just in case you want to restore to new windows update UI just change the value to 1
